Un hit majeur en 1989 était "We didn't start the fire" de Billy Joel. Le concept était de résumer 40 ans d'actualités dans une chanson, de la fin de la Grande Guerre jusqu'en 89. J'ai pensé, pourquoi pas la reprendre et en faire une nouvelle version, de 1989 jusqu'à aujourd'hui?

Une maudite bonne raison pour pas le faire était le fait que ça allait encore me faire une histoire que je pensais régler dans un après-midi et qui finirait par me prendre un mois et demi, mais comme d'habitude je le savais pas et le temps que je finisse par m'en rendre compte il était trop tard pour arrêter. Mais ça valait la peine: ça m'a fourni l'occasion de faire un voyage dans le temps; il s'en est passé des choses dans les 20 dernières années.

J'ai tenté dans la mesure du possible de conserver le métrage de la version originale pour faciliter la transition, tout en respectant le concept de suivre l'ordre chronologique. La tâche n'a pas été de tout repos, mais j'imagine que que ce n'est rien en comparaison avec l'original: si Billy travaillait à deux fois plus d'années, il n'avait pas accès à Wikipedia. Je pense qu'il a dû passer des semaines à consulter des vieux journaux à la bibliothèque; en tout cas je lui lève mon chapeau.
